Paint
Pretty much figure every surface of a home that can be painted should be
freshly painted. There is something to be said for painting brick, both inside
and outside. Me, I would have to think long and hard about painting brick.
When you select paint color, beige is too dark. Egg shell seems to be all
the rage in model homes. When you visit a home store or paint store ask a
salesman, if you can find one, what color of white seems most often purchased to
get an idea of what is the standard white in your area.
A house painted in a single color seems right to me. The trim can be a
different color. And the ceilings will need to be something like bright white.
But Trying to order different colors throughout the house will be time consuming
and never be just right. Just find a color which goes with the cabinets in the
kitchen, tile and carpeting on the floor, and that's it. Price should be an
issue to consider. Make sure the paint you select is advertised as one coat
coverage. This may not be possible if you are painting over a dark color. But
then you probably should paint all dark surfaces with an undercoat before a
final coat in this case.
A favorite color of mine is antique white. It has several different names.
Ivory linen is another color name for this shade of white. In hundreds of the
houses I have worked on over the years, painters always used a single color
paint throughout a house or condo. This had to be for a reason. And visiting
these units many years later showed that the colors did not change.
So if you are tempted to make a room pink, resist the urge. Let the
subsequent home owner select as paint color they feel is right. You can never
guess what they might like since you do not even know who they are.
Every house can not be flipped by
every person for a profit every time.
